Ever Have a SOC7?

via McCusker a reference to an excellent piece by Jeff Darcy around high performance server design.

His points are well taken. There is an interesting essay to write around the weakness of developers and development approaches in the face of GCing VMs and languages. The nice thing about a SIGSEGV or SOC7 is that the reality of weak coding would smack you in the face. Today's development languages and runtimes mask the direct brutality of development weakness. The net result is often bloated runtime characteristics - exponential memory usage, context switch thrashing, etc.
